I started taking exercise classes with my mom through Arlington County Parks and Rec in 1992 at the Fairlington Community Center.  I’ll never forget how she guilted me in to going with her the first time. I was not interested in exercise at all; after the first class- I could not even breathe.

After that, the challenge was on and I caught the fever.

I went regularly, and pushed myself each time. I saw the results in my energy levels, my appearance and my mood.

Eventually, the instructor asked if I would like to be her sub. I agreed. She trained me, and I started filling in for her. When she retired, I took over teaching her classes. That was 24 years ago.

Whether a teacher or a participant, these classes have supported me physically and emotionally through all of life’s ups and downs.  I am forever grateful – grateful beyond words in fact.  I have also made wonderful friends through these classes, which I am the most grateful.

If you’re reading this, please join me and my wonderful peeps to start or continue your own exercise story. Remember, all you have to do is show up.  Everyone and anyone can take our classes.  There is no age limit.  Modifications can be made for all levels of fitness.
